Course Description :
This course will examine the causes of IV infiltration and extravasation, review the literature, and give guidelines for prevention and management of complications. Included in the course is a case report that highlights an adverse outcome that is all too common in perioperative care.

Conference Objectives are:
• List the factors that predispose to IV infusion injury.
• Define the terms extravasation, infiltration and compartment syndrome.
• Identify medications and fluids used in the perioperative setting that are vesicants.
• Plan an approach to management of IV infusion injuries including extravasation and compartment syndrome.
