Objectives:
Upon completion of this educational activity participants should be able to:
• Apply the knowledge of the mechanisms, benefits, and limitations of the various noninsulin antidiabetic agents to treat patients with type 2 diabetes effectively.
• Take into account the expected glycosylated hemoglobin reduction for each class of oral medications when managing patients with type 2 diabetes.
• Implement a stepwise approach to escalation of glucose lowering treatments, with intensification of therapy for those who fail to meet blood glucose targets according to latest guidelines.
