Activity Overview:
Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is an immune-mediated inflammatory disorder. Recent advances in pathogenesis have led to an increased understanding of the disease, which has subsequently led to the development of novel targeted agents shown to slow its progression. Managed care pharmacists will have a better understanding of these new treatment modalities and steps to optimize treatment to prevent long-term morbidity and improve patients’ quality of life.

Educational Objectives:
At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
• Analyze ankylosing spondylitis pathophysiology, associated comorbidities, classification, and early diagnosis.
• Identify the mechanisms of action, efficacy, safety, and adverse effects of novel interleukin inhibitors for ankylosing spondylitis.
• Discuss the burden of ankylosing spondylitis and the role of managed care professionals and specialty pharmacists in the management of ankylosing spondylitis.
