Description:
The webinar will cover why the concept of implicit bias is relevant to the practice of medicine, and how physicians can begin to uncover and challenge their unconscious perceptions. It will also include a discussion providing examples of how physicians can find personal and professional satisfaction while learning to reframe their interactions with their patients.

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this learning activity, participants will be able to:

  • Define implicit bias and describe the societal and personal factors that contribute to the development of implicit biases
  • Describe the potential negative effects of a physician’s implicit bias on interacting with and caring for patients
  • Identify ways to recognize and address potential disconnects between unconscious perceptions and conscious professional standards and values
  • Describe how physician satisfaction can be enhanced by exploring strategies to address implicit bias in their practice
