Goal:
To provide pharmacists and pharmacy technicians with a description of the opioid crisis and ensure that they have the information necessary to recognize opioid use disorder and provide short-term stabilization.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
• Discuss the scope of the opioid crisis in terms of mortality and public health implications
• Describe the transition from initial exposure to development of opioid use disorder, including risk factors and risk screening
• Outline criteria for opioid use disorder
• List the signs and symptoms of opioid withdrawal
• Review pharmacologic treatment of acute opioid withdrawal
