Description:
Today on MedNet21, we're going to discuss HIV Prevention. The program will discuss the prevalence of HIV infection in different demographics in order to allow viewers to better screen patients for HIV risk factors. Studies demonstrating the effectiveness of tenofovir/emtricitabine in different patient populations will be presented. Recommendations for the use of pre-exposure prophylaxis as well as common side effects will be discussed.
Objectives:
As a result of this educational activity, webcast participants will be able to:
• DEFINE PrEP in the context of the current AIDS Epidemic;
• REVIEW the scientific evidence supporting PrEP use;
• SHARE data on the awareness and uptake of PrEP in high risk populations;
• DISCUSS Guidelines for PrEP Implementation; and
• DISCUSS future PrEP modalities.
