This video course identifies the common hip, foot and ankle pathologies commonly seen in dancers...from a surgeon's perspective.  Zak Knutson, MD and Brian Clowers, MD will explain injuries of the dancing athletes, what surgical options exist, and appropriate post-surgical rehab techniques.

The course focuses on the topics of:

  • How is the dancing athlete different
  • What hip injuries are commonly seen and how to treat them surgically and non-surgically
  • Common ankle injuries in the dancer
  • Why foot pathologies are more difficult to treat in a dancer 

Course Goals and Objectives:
At the completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  1. Recognize an overview of the hip anatomy, pathology associated with the hip, and surgical intervention involving the hip
  2. Recognize an overview of the foot and ankle anatomy, pathology associated with the foot and ankle, and surgical intervention of the foot and ankle complex
  3. Identify common anatomical hip issues with dancers
  4. Differentiate between common hip provocation pain tests
  5. Recognize characteristics of an external/internal snapping hip
  6. Identify surgical rehab guidelines for the hip
  7. Recognize foot and ankle conditions that commonly affect dancers
  8. Identify management techniques for acute/chronic lateral instability of the ankle
  9. Recognize adjuctive surgical procedures for chronic lateral instability
  10. Identify Hallux MTP joint pathology
