Hidden in Plain Sight: A Comprehensive Approach to Perioperative Anaphylaxis is an interactive course created to aid allergists in evaluating a patient with perioperative anaphylaxis. This is a clinically oriented, interactive multi-media course designed to improve your clinical practice. The modules provide a standardized approach to evaluation; these include reviewing an anesthesia record, communicating with the anesthesia team, testing recommendations and handling a negative evaluation. In addition, letter templates for communicating with patients, the anesthesia team and primary care providers are available.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
• Understand the epidemiology of perioperative anaphylaxis.
• Develop a systematic approach to evaluate perioperative anaphylaxis.
• Recognize the limitations of and barriers to perioperative anaphylaxis evaluation.
• Understand the importance of communication between the patient, anesthesia team, primary care and allergist following a perioperative anaphylaxis event.
