Description:
Top diet and nutrition trends for 2024 include intermittent fasting, plant-based eating, digestive health and functional hydration. According to the IFIC 2023 Food & Health Survey, three in four Americans (74%) believe the food and beverages they consume have a significant or moderate impact on their overall mental and emotional well-being. Conversely, more than six in ten (61%) also believe their overall mental and emotional well-being has a significant or moderate impact on their food and beverage choices. Current research on food trends, diet quality and probiotics will be discussed.

Intermittent fasting and time restricted eating are popular diet strategies which many patients are trying. New attention on the role of ultra processed diets and their impact on obesity, insulin resistance and dysbiosis will be discussed. Fasting may not outperform continuous energy restriction for weight loss. This session will dive into popular diets for both weight loss and GI health including intermittent fasting, plant based eating, and Mediterranean diets.

Clinicians will gain deeper understanding of food trends and to best guide patients on which trends to utilize. Counseling pearls will be discussed to integrate nutrition therapy into patient centered care.

• Develop understanding of popular diets with emphasis on dietary patterns and commonly avoided foods.
