The National Kidney Foundation Council of Nephrology Social Workers, Provider #1014, is approved as a provider for social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) www.aswb.org, through the Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program.  The National Kidney Foundation Council of Nephrology Social Workers maintains responsibility for the program. Social workers participating in this course will receive 1.5 continuing education clock hours.

The National Kidney Foundation is accredited as a provider of continuing transplant education by the American Board for Transplant Certification: CEPTC Provider Number #170. This activity has been granted 1.5 contact hours.

Description:
This activity will clarify the dilemmas of post-transplant coping and adherence versus pre-transplant, and how social workers can intervene to reduce the risks of non-adherence. The activity also provides information on ways to assess patients for these risks. The faculty includes case examples to help participants understand the issues more in depth. 

Learning Objectives:
After participation in this activity, learners will be better able to:
• List and describe the ways in which dialysis patients don't do well with transplant in terms of coping and adherence
• Identify the ways Health Locus of Control can impact the post-transplant experience
• Evaluate the pre-transplant candidate for signs that could predict post-transplant coping and adherence complications
