Description:
The study of the treatment of psychiatric illness is constantly evolving, and several new medications have been recently approved for diagnoses such as mood disorders and schizophrenia. Many of these new medications have novel mechanisms of action, and thus they are a significant departure from older medications. This session will review the latest developments in psychopharmacology with which all primary care clinicians should be familiar.
Learning Objectives:
- Review newer drugs that have been recently approved for the treatment of psychiatric diagnoses
- Describe novel mechanisms of action of recently introduced psychotropic agents
- Identify newer pharmacologic agents currently under study for appropriate use in the treatment of psychiatric diagnoses
