The National Kidney Foundation Council of Nephrology Social Workers, Provider #1014, is approved as a provider for social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) www.aswb.org, through the Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program.  The National Kidney Foundation Council of Nephrology Social Workers maintains responsibility for the program. Social workers participating in this course will receive 1.5 continuing education clock hours.

Description:
The purpose of this activity is to enable the learner to appreciate/consider the importance of providing patients with risks and benefits of renal replacement therapy, as well as conservative medical management as a treatment option. The content of the small group workshop developed to achieve this goal will be shared with audience participants.

Learning Objectives:
After participation in this activity, learners will be better able to:
• Describe current standard for patient education on treatment options for advanced stage kidney disease
• Identify tools and methods that could be used to educate patients and families about the no dialysis choice
• Describe and analyze preliminary outcome data of the small group workshops
