Program Description
The prevalence of heart failure (HF) has increased from 5.7 million to 6.5 million Americans, contributing to one in eight deaths and accounting for almost 400,000 deaths each year. High cholesterol currently affects 99 million Americans or 45% of the adult population.1,2 Not only is it important for clinicians to understand how these diseases will impact their patients, but they must also be able to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of evidence-based therapeutics that are available for treatment. Recent treatment developments plus guideline updates for both HF and high cholesterol have given clinicians more information and data than ever before to consider when caring for their patients. This activity will help pharmacists, physicians, physician assistants, and nurses to review the effects of heart failure and high cholesterol and to develop evidence-based treatment plans for their patients.
Program Goal
The overall goal is to enhance participants' knowledge about heart failure, high cholesterol, and the variety of therapeutics that are available to treat these conditions. In addition, participants will also learn how to navigate evolving evidence, research, and guidelines that must be considered when using these therapeutics in clinical practice.
Learning Outcome
At the conclusion of this learning activity, the RN will verbalize the desire to change practice due to knowledge gained regarding the application of the latest evidence-based guidelines and data on available treatments for heart failure and high cholesterol in order to develop patient-centered treatment plans.

The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This activity is accredited for pharmacists, up to a total of 6.0 contact hours as follows:
- 1.25 CE hours - Module 1: Pharmacotherapeutic Management of Heart Failure *
- 1.25 CE hours - Module 2: Pharmacotherapeutic Management of High Cholesterol *
- 2 CE hours - Module 3: Heart Failure and High Cholesterol - Applying Guidelines and Evidence-Based Data

Nursing Accreditation
University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. This CNE activity has been jointly provided by the University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing collaboratively with The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy.
Once successful completion has been verified, a “Certificate of Successful Completion” will be awarded for nurses, up to a total of 6.5 contact hours as follows:
