Evidence Based Approach to Exercise Therapy for Patients with Dementia is organized by HomeCEU and will be held during Dec 23, 2017 - Dec 31, 2019.
The target audience for this medical event is Physical Therapist, Physical Therapist Assistant, Occupational Therapist, Occupational Therapist Assistant, Certified Athletic Trainers, and Nurses. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 1 Contact Hours.
Course Description:
Dementia is a degenerative disease that results in a loss of brain function, including significant limitations in memory, thinking, language, judgment, and behavior. Light to moderate exercise may benefit dementia patients by improving both symptoms and quality of life. The purpose of this course is to evaluate the evidence found in the literature on the advantages and applications of home-based exercise programs for patients with dementia. Several exercise modalities will be discussed as well as the effects of those programs on patients endurance, balance, ADLs, cognitive function, and mood.
Course Goal:
To review the current evidence based literature to determine if the introduction of home-based exercise programs improves cognitive function and stabilizes mood swings in patients with dementia.
Conference Objectives are :
• Identify Homeostasis and the role of the nervous system.
• Delineate the branches of the human nervous system.
• Name the three divisions of the human brain.
• Describe the primary causes of dementia
• Discuss the effects and manifestations of progressing dementia.
• Compare, contrast, and synthesize the literature findings for the impact of home based exercise programs on cognitive function and the effect on mood swings in patients with dementia.
• Identify the merits of employing video games in encouraging exercise among dementia patients.
