OVERVIEW

Medical errors are a serious public health problem and a leading cause of death in the United States. It is challenging to uncover a consistent cause of errors and, even if found, to provide a compatible, viable solution that minimizes the chances of a recurrent event. By recognizing untoward events, learning from them, and working toward preventing them, patient safety can be improved.

The Medical Error Prevention Series offers a comprehensive analysis of the impact that mistakes made by medical professionals have on the delivery of patient care. This article examines the function of interdisciplinary teams in enhancing the safety of patients. In addition to this, it sheds light on a variety of essential facets that are relevant to the elimination of errors and the cultivation of a culture of safety.
