Scientific Rational:
The Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) project is a multidisciplinary program based on the pre-intra- and post-operative use of a whole series of specific interventions that aim to reduce metabolic stress in order to bring the patient back to a condition of autonomy in the shortest possible time.
The ERAS project was originally conceived for general surgery: only later its clinical use was extended to other specialties such as gynecological surgery, liver surgery and senology. Thoracic surgery was one of the last specialties to acknowledge the importance of the "message" conveyed by the ERAS project: as a consequence, there are still few thoracic surgery departments that in their daily clinical practice employ ERAS or "fast-" paths track ”similar to ERAS.
The routine use of the ERAS project certainly requires a radical change in the way of operating and behaving not only to thoracic surgeons but also to anesthesiologists, physiotherapists and nurses. Precisely for this reason - and confident of the many positive aspects inherent in the systematic use of ERAS programs in the thoracic surgery departments - we decided to organize a FAD course in the form of a Webinar in order to involve the main professional figures assigned to the clinical application of these multimodal perioperative care programs.
Training Objectives:
The main objectives of this FAD course, carried out in the form of a Webinar, are the following:
Briefly illustrate what the ERAS program applied to thoracic surgery consists of and what the results can be obtained from its routine use;
To illustrate to some professional figures - thoracic surgeons, anesthesiologists, physiotherapists and nurses - how the way of approaching the patient in the thoracic surgery departments that use ERAS programs has changed.
