Activity Summary:
This session includes up-to-date information regarding the basis for and the transition to DNP education for APRNs, factors to consider when choosing graduate preparation in nursing, and the boundaries of APRN practice. Documents foundational to advanced nursing role preparation and practice are explored. Cases allow attendees to apply concepts so that when choosing a graduate program they can be sure it prepares them for the future they desire.

Objectives:

  • Evaluate risks and benefits to consider in selecting DNP or MSN education for advanced nursing roles, including APRN and nursing management.
  • Decide which educational preparation best matches practice demands in primary care, acute or critical care, and in emergency departments.
  • Examine factors to consider when choosing a graduate nursing program or an APRN position after graduating.
