OVERVIEW

Emergency Department Presentations of Substance Use is organized by California Society of Addiction Medicine (CSAM) and will be held during Sep 22, 2016 - Sep 21, 2018.

The target audience for this medical event is Addiction medicine specialists who want an overview of the latest developments in the field and their relevance to clinical practice, Primary care clinicians who want to get a better understanding of addiction and manage patients with addictions in their practice, Public health officials who want an understanding of the current state of addiction treatment, Non-physicians who are involved in the treatment of addiction. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 1.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

Conference Description :
Learners will have an understanding of an organized approach to the acute management of poisoned patients with an emphasis on supportive care measures, identification of toxcidromes and the use of selected antidotes.

Conference Objectives are :
• Review the statistics on ER presentations of addictive disorders.
• Review highlights of ER screening and evaluation for addictive disorders.
• Review the concept of toxidromes and how they inform treatment.
• Present clinical case vignettes weighted towards the more common or more serious presentations of addictive disorders.
• Review rational approaches to diagnostic dilemmas in acute care patients.
• Review the limitations of toxicology testing in the acute care setting.
