Description:
Patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD), diabetic macular edema (DME), and retinal vein occlusion (RVO) continue to face significant challenges due to the chronic progressive nature of these retinal diseases and the need for frequent treatments. Anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy remains the cornerstone of management. However, frequent injections and clinic visits contribute to the substantial treatment burden and adherence difficulties for patients. Recent advances in therapy, including aflibercept 8 mg, faricimab, and the Port Delivery System (PDS) with ranibizumab, have introduced longer dosing intervals as well as promising safety and efficacy outcomes across these conditions. For nAMD, aflibercept 8 mg and faricimab now allow up to 16-week dosing, while the reintroduced PDS provides sustained delivery every 24 weeks. For DME, both aflibercept 8 mg and faricimab have shown durable efficacy, and corticosteroid implants remain valuable for patients with refractory DME. Similarly, aflibercept 8 mg, faricimab, and corticosteroid implants demonstrate strong efficacy in RVO treatment. In this CE activity, expert faculty identify diagnostic features of nAMD, DME, and RVO that warrant early referral. They will also review the latest data on the safety and efficacy of anti-VEGF and corticosteroid therapies for the management of these patients.
