Do No Harm (DNH) Opioid Awareness: Module 5 - Patient Engagement is organized by University of Oklahoma College of Medicine (OUHSC).

Objectives :
Upon completion of this activity, participants will improve their competence and performance by being able to:
• Prepare a patient-centered pain management plan based on shared decisions with patients and assuring understanding of risks, benefits, and responsibilities in the plan.
• Develop a compassionate approach for helping “legacy patients” achieve safer opioid doses while managing withdrawal.
• Negotiate a signed patient pain treatment agreement with informed consent, if opioids are included in the plan, provide patient education in the safe use, storage, and disposal of controlled substance.
• Educate patients, caregivers, and family members how to recognize signs of intoxication, and overdose, and how to use naloxone for rescue and resuscitation.
