Conference Description:
This CME-accredited, case-based activity briefly reviews best practices for screening, diagnosing, and treating postmenopausal women with osteoporosis. Clinical pearls from recent evidence are provided, as well as expert insight on clinical data and treatment recommendations.
Statement of Need:
In the United States, approximately 12.3 million people older than 50 years are predicted to have osteoporosis by 2020. Osteoporosis-related fractures are associated with loss of mobility, chronic pain, and decreased quality of life. Moreover, between 21% and 30% of patients who experience hip fractures die within 1 year. Clinicians should be aware of methods to screen for, prevent, and treat osteoporosis in order to reduce the incidence of this preventable disease.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants should be able to:
• Understand the evidence supporting osteoporosis screening through dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry and pharmacologic anti-fracture therapy in postmenopausal women.
Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.
