The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023 (CAA 2023) has introduced a critical mandate to combat the ongoing opioid and substance use disorders (SUDs) crisis. It requires all DEA-registered practitioners, except veterinarians, to complete an 8-hour training program on managing patients with SUDs, aiming to reduce overdose fatalities. This rule applies broadly to healthcare providers prescribing controlled substances, but exceptions include addiction-certified practitioners and those with prior relevant training. Enforcement began on June 27, 2023, impacting initial registrations and renewals but is a one-time obligation.

The online courses bundle encompasses various subjects pertaining to the prescription of opioids and pain management, which are mandated by the Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) Act as a prerequisite for your DEA registration.
