Webinar Summary:
Nutrition strongly impacts a patient’s ability to respond to illness or injury. However, up to 55 percent of hospitalized patients arrive malnourished or become malnourished during their hospitalization, impairing their chances of survival, increasing their risk of complications and delaying healing. This webinar will make the case for the key impact nurses have on identifying, avoiding and treating malnourishment, and ensuring patients receive the nutrition they need. The 2016 ASPEN/SCCM Guidelines for Nutrition Support Therapy will be addressed, and participants will learn some key elements of practice to support effective enteral nutrition.

• Describe the consequences of malnourishment for critical care patients
• Identify how staff nurses can advocate for adequate nutrition for their patients
• Discuss three (3) evidence-based practices to ensure the prescribed enteral nutrition is being delivered effectively
