Description:
Sexual and gender minority (SGM) individuals often encounter significant social marginalization and stigma in clinical settings as patients and trainees. This session presents specific actionable items that can be incorporated into clinical spaces, with a focus on feasible, evidence-based interventions that lead to more affirming and inclusive environments. Successful examples of curricula accessible to all levels of training experience, and resources for continued education for physicians working with the SGM community, will be presented.

Objectives:
After completing this course, the learner should be better able to:
Review social and biobehavioral factors that lead to poor health outcomes for LGBTQ+ populations.
• Identify affirming language to use in documentation and clinical discussions of LGBTQ+ persons.
• Discuss additional steps that can be taken to ensure an affirming environment for LGBTQ+ patients and trainees.
