Overview:
Residents of long-term care facilities (LTCFs) have a high incidence of Clostridioides difficile infections (CDI). Given the financial constraints of long-term care facilities, the most cost-effective strategy for treating CDI is not always clear (especially considering the financial burden of many CDI treatments). This activity will review literature in relation to cost-effective CDI treatments and evaluate the implementation processes to determine the ideal scenarios for different CDI treatment options.

Learning Objectives:
Pharmacist, Pharmacy Technician and Nurse:
• Review available data on the cost-effectiveness of guideline backed agents used to treat initial and recurrent CDI
• Describe the economic burden of CDI on the healthcare system
• Given LTC case examples, recognize how to navigate and align economic and patient outcome decisions with regard to medication management.
