Overview:
Clostridioides difficile disproportionately impacts elderly patients, including those in long-term care facilities (LTCFs), and is associated with significant morbidity and excess healthcare costs. The burden of Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) continues to expand beyond the inpatient arena. Evidence-based clinical practice guidelines for CDI can be applied to patients in LTCFs to improve outcomes. This module will discuss the application of CDI guidelines in LTCF patients including specific management decisions for initial and recurrent disease and stewardship strategies that can be applied to minimize the burden of CDI on LTCFs.
