Overview :
Insomnia remains the most prevalent sleep disorder frequently encountered in the primary care setting. Dissatisfaction with sleep, due to difficulty in falling asleep or staying asleep or waking early, remains a challenge for primary care clinicians to recognize, evaluate and manage. As primary care providers continue to exhibit an incomplete understanding of diagnosis and appropriate treatment of insomnia, this program will focus on providing clinical resources intended to improve recognition and assessment of sleep disorders while establishing collaborative treatment plans, which result in improved patient health outcomes.
Learning Objectives :
• Review the prevalence of chronic insomnia in primary care settings, including the associations with chronic disease
• Describe the types of insomnia and therapeutic challenges
• Review the pathophysiology of insomnia and discuss emerging approaches to better management
• Discuss the value of non-pharmacologic approaches in the management of insomnia
• Identify clinical scenarios where hypnotic treatment may be appropriate while recognizing treatment related side effects
Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.
