Description:
This module is the fourth of 6 modules in the Clinical Dietetics for Bariatric Surgery Evergreen course. The aim of this module is to give dietitians the ability to provide evidence-based preoperative medical nutritional therapy to candidates for metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS).

Learning Outcomes:

  • Apply standardized nutrition language, critical thinking, and clinical reasoning to the nutritional assessment and diagnosis of candidates for metabolic and bariatric surgery
  • Integrate the elements of evidence-based practice to provide motivational interviewing and behaviour change principles to prepare candidates for metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS)
  • Interpret and explain the principles of using very low-calorie diets for preoperative liver preparation in candidates for metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS)
  • Integrate the elements of evidence-based practice to provide individualized and culturally relevant preoperative medical nutrition therapy including very low-calorie diets.
