Description:
This module is the third of 6 modules in the Clinical Dietetics for Bariatric Surgery Evergreen course. The aim of this module is to build understanding of the nutritional management of the patient with bariatric surgery with respect to both macro- and micronutrients.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Interpret and explain the importance of protein intake and hydration pre- and postoperatively for patients who elect bariatric surgery
  • Apply standardized nutrition language, critical thinking, and clinical reasoning to assess the micro-and macro-nutrient status of patients electing bariatric surgery pre-and postoperatively, particularly in relevance to anemia, bone health, and neurological functioning
  • Apply medical nutrition therapies to prevent and treat micro- and macronutrient deficiencies, including diet, supplemental, and injectables
  • Use evidence-based practice to select appropriate medical nutritional therapies to treat nutrient deficiencies
