Description:
This module is the first of 6 modules in the Clinical Dietetics for Bariatric Surgery Evergreen course. The aim of this module is to provide an overview of obesity and bariatric surgery and the relationship between the two, and to develop and understanding of the role of the dietitian within the multidisciplinary team supporting patients electing for bariatric surgery.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe the causes, hormonal effects, and metabolic impact of obesity
  • Explain the characteristics of people requiring bariatric surgery, including eligibility criteria in Australia
  • Understand and navigate the practical aspects of bariatric surgery in Australia
  • Build confidence functioning as part of a multidisciplinary team supporting a patient electing for bariatric surgery and understand the implications of this team when determining surgical outcomes.
