Activity Overview:
Dry eye disease (DED) is a common condition in the general public, with particular prevalence among patients who wear contact lenses and those seeking treatment for cataracts. A variety of screening and diagnostic tools are available for eye care professionals to identify DED, and a range of over-the-counter treatments, prescription medications, and devices have demonstrated therapeutic efficacy. This educational program provides a high-level overview of recent guidelines covering DED diagnosis and treatment for general populations and preoperative patients, as well as expert perspective focusing on particular topics of interest for eye care professionals, such as choosing efficient point-of-care tests; evaluating patients for aqueous deficient, evaporative, and mixed features; and identifying ocular “masqueraders” that mimic DED.
