Course Description:
The Choosing Wisely® campaign, an initiative of the ABIM Foundation, seeks to advance a national dialogue on avoiding unnecessary medical tests, treatments, and procedures. This webinar will provide physicians with information to engage patients in their medical treatment and empower them to ask questions about what tests and procedures are right for them.
There are a wide variety of challenges that come with diabetic care and while many physicians may initially turn to pharmacological solutions, there are other alternative therapies that may be just as or even more effective. Diabetic patients often face other illnesses and may be receiving medication for those health issues, so it is important that physicians consider alternative methods in controlling diabetes such as diet and exercise, so a patient is not overprescribed medication.
Course Objective:
• Define how certain medications can interfere with diabetes treatment
• Explain the role diet and exercise have in the treatment of diabetes and know how to utilize diet and exercise regimens as an alternative form of treatment
• Recognize diabetic patients who are negatively impacted by medications and know how to solve the issue through alternative treatment
• Discuss the most common diabetes comorbidities
