OVERVIEW

Cholesterol: The Good, the Bad, and the Balanced, Part 2 is organized by Nurse.com - OnCourse Learning Corporation and will be held from Aug 16, 2017 - Aug 16, 2020. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 1.0 Contact Hours.

Course Description:
Treatment for cholesterol can vary from person to person regardless of his or her lipid profile. Some people respond well to changes in diet and exercise. Others need to add medication to the lifestyle changes they’ve made to decrease their risk of cardiovascular disease. This educational activity highlights recommendations for medical therapy from the 2013 American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association’s “Guideline on the Treatment of Blood Cholesterol to Reduce Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Risk in Adults” and the subsequent 2016 “Expert Consensus Decision Pathway on the Role of Non-Statin Therapies for LDL-Cholesterol Lowering in the Management of Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease Risk.” A summary of major alternative therapies is also included.

Goal and Learning Outcomes:
The goal of this cholesterol management continuing education program is to inform nurses and physicians about the medications used to treat patients with dyslipidemia who are at significant risk for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
• Name the categories of lipid-lowering medications and identify the main lipid component targeted by each category
• Discuss the indications for consideration of non-statin medications
• State the most common adverse effects of the most widely used cholesterol-lowering medications, known as statins
• Identify the potential risk reduction in treating hyperlipidemia
