Child Abuse Assessment and Reporting

Child Abuse Assessment and Reporting is organized by Vista Continuing Education. This course has been approved for a maximum of 7CE.

Course Overview:
The course will familiarize professionals with Child Protective Services statutory and agency guidelines for child maltreatment. The professional will demonstrably judge the urgency with which the agency must respond to the report of child abuse.  In addition, individuals who report allegations of child abuse or neglect must be educated about state statutes, agency guidelines and the roles and responsibilities of Child Protective Services. This course will describe strategies to effectively support specific intervention and case applications and examples to illustrate the use of these interventions.  

Course Objectives:
• After completing this course the clinician will be able to demonstrate the social work standard for making a report of child abuse.
• After completing this course the clinician will be able to determine child maltreatment and abuse as defined by State statute or agency policy.
• After completing this course the clinician will be able to choose what type of social work agency or community response will ensure the child's safety in the least intrusive manner.
• After completing this course the clinician will be able to apply intervention techniques that social workers use to minimize the trauma to abuse survivors and their families.
