Pulmonary fibrosis occurs when scar tissue in the lungs prevents the diffusion of oxygen into the bloodstream. The inflammation is often caused by certain medications, chronic hypersensitivity pneumonitis, prolonged exposure to down feathers or some autoimmune diseases, but can also occur for reasons unknown. Paul Noble, MD, the Vera and Paul Guerin Family Distinguished Chair in Pulmonary Medicine, shares more on this mystery and what’s being done to solve it in a recent “Pioneers in Medicine” interview featuring host Bruce L.
