Description:
Established guidelines recommend aggressive lowering of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) in patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) for optimal outcomes. However, substantial barriers hinder patients’ achievement of guideline-directed LDL-C targets, including patient adherence to treatment, gaps in provider knowledge, and failure to implement non-statin lipid-lowering therapies. This CaseCare360 activity follows the treatment journey of a patient with a history of ASCVD through a series of clinical appointments, including laboratory assessment, referral to a cardiologist, treatment, and longer-term follow-up. This CE activity includes discussion on the long-term impact of elevated LDL-C, guideline recommendations for LDL-C screening, the latest evidence on non-statin therapies, and strategies for employing shared decision-making to improve adherence and long-term LDL-C management in patients with ASCVD. Additionally, the importance of interprofessional collaboration for improved disease management will be emphasized.
