Course Description:
The closed claim studies found in the publication are based on actual obstetrics and gynecology malpractice claims from Texas Medical Liability Trust. They illustrate how actions by physicians led to allegations of medical liability and how risk management techniques may have either prevented the outcome or increased the physician’s defensibility. The ultimate goal in publishing this activity is to help physicians practice safe medicine.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
• discuss common causes of medical liability claims in obstetrical care;
• identify risk management issues in obstetrics and gynecology that can affect patient care and physician liability;
• recognize strategies to improve patient care, avoid litigation, and enhance defensibility in the event of a lawsuit; and
• explain how good documentation techniques can help prevent malpractice claims.
Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.
