Since 2000, Texas Medical Liability Trust (TMLT) has published closed claim studies, based on actual TMLT malpractice claims, to promote opportunities for learning. These studies are provided to help physicians and other health care professionals improve patient safety and reduce potential liability risks.

Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
• recognize strategies to improve patient care, avoid litigation, and enhance defensibility in the event of a lawsuit;
• explain how good documentation techniques can help prevent malpractice claims;
• identify issues in obstetrics that can affect patient care and physician liability; and
• discuss common causes of medical liability claims in obstetrical care.
