This course is intended for health care professionals to gain a baseline knowledge for care to a patient with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA).
• Pediatric palliative care is defined and explored
• Pediatric palliative care is evaluated for its use in SMA
• Difficult decision-making about intensive therapies of pediatric clients with SMA is examined

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this educational activity the learner will be able to:
• comprehend the role of pediatric palliative care (PPC).
• explore the relationship between PPC and SMA.
• discuss care options, goals, & decision-making for pediatric clients and families.
• identify effective coping and communication strategies for self-care when caring for a child with SMA.
