OVERVIEW
Be PrEPared to Reduce the Risk of HIV Transmission is organized by Pri-Med and will be held during Dec 16, 2016 - Dec 16, 2017. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 0.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
Overview :
Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a highly effective strategy for preventing HIV transmission. However, it is being utilized in only a small fraction of eligible individuals. Primary care providers have a unique opportunity to reduce the burden of HIV by routinely screening patients at risk and providing interventions for HIV prevention, such as PrEP. In this Mini Patient Case Study, Dr. Raphael Landovitz will review the scientific evidence supporting the use of PrEP and the importance of adherence for maximizing its effectiveness. In addition, he will provide practical guidance for implementation of PrEP in primary care practice.
Learning Objectives :
• Incorporate routine screening and risk assessment for HIV into clinical practice, as recommended by evidence-based HIV screening and prevention guidelines. • Incorporate evidence-based pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) into risk-reduction strategies to lower HIV transmission rates.
