Objectives:
Upon completion of this educational activity participants should be able to:
• Describe the ventilatory control mechanism in sleep
• Define central sleep apnea and describe how to assess it
• Describe the classification of central apnea syndromes
• Recognize idiopathic CSA
• Define Cheyne-Stokes respiration and be able to recognize characteristics of its clinical presentation and pathogenesis
• Describe treatment options for CSA and Cheyne-Stokes
• Recognize the relationship between opioid use and CSA
• Describe complex sleep apnea and congenital hypoventilation syndrome
