Asthma Goes to School is organized by University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) and will be held from May 03, 2018 - May 03, 2019.
The target audience for this medical event is planned to address the educational needs of physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses and public health professionals. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 1.20 Contact Hours.
Course Description:
Children with asthma take their asthma with them to school, and school nurses stand at the forefront of providing care to these children during the school day. The collaboration between the parent, doctor, and school nurse can optimize the care of these children, their school attendance, and academic success. The presence or absence of rescue medications, spacers, and asthma action plans can all impact the school nurse’s ability to care for these children. Asthma Goes to School will provide a window into the school health office and the school day of a child with asthma.
Course Objectives are:
• Outline challenges facing school nurses caring for students with asthma.
• Develop asthma action plans and/or orders appropriate for use at school.
• Compare a school asthma attack with and without rescue medication.
• Describe steps identified in the Asthma 411 program that pediatricians and primary care providers can take to minimize the impact of asthma on students.
