Are You Recognizing Excessive Daytime Sleepiness Associated with Obstructive Sleep Apnea? is organized by National Association for Continuing Education (NACE).
Start Date: 6/1/2021
Expiration Date: 5/31/2022
Target Audience:
Pulmonologists, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Physicians, and other clinicians engaged in the care of patients with pulmonary conditions
Summary:
Excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) affects an estimated 20% of the population, with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) being a particularly important cause. The consequences of EDS include poorer health, reduced quality of life (QoL), impaired performance in the workplace, and adverse economic consequences. As training specific to sleep disorders is often limited, clinicians may underestimate the impact of EDS on patients' daily living and comorbid conditions. As a result, sleep disorders, including EDS in patients with OSA, often remain underdiagnosed and undertreated. This course will address diagnosis, treatment, and clinician-patient communication strategies to optimize patient care.
This webcast was recorded live at the Conversations in Pulmonology Live Virtual Broadcast and is being used with the permission of the presenters.
Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, learners should be able to:
• Recognize the clinical significance of excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) associated with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)
• Employ strategies to identify and assess EDS
• Implement treatment approaches to manage EDS associated with OSA
