The target audience for this medical event is intended for an interprofessional audience, including nurses, ARNPs/APRNs, nursing assistants, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, physicians, and physicians assistants. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 1.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

Rising trends in antimicrobial resistance is a costly and significant contributor to negative health consequences in the United States and worldwide. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recognizes this impact and will now penalize hospitals with high rates of acquired Methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) and C. difficile infections in an effort to promote proper antimicrobial stewardship and infection control policies. With proper education, development and use of effective protocols, and close monitoring, the interprofessional care team can have a substantial impact on improving patient outcomes and reducing healthcare costs.

Conference Objectives are :
The goal of this presentation is to increase awareness of CMS reporting requirements and strategies to reduce transmission of MRSA and C. difficile. Upon completion, participants will be able to do the following:
• Briefly review and discuss the current epidemiology of MRSA and C. difficile and CMS requirements
• Review risk factors for acquiring MRSA and C. difficile
• List various interventions that have been successful in reducing these infections
• Discuss methods for preventing, tracking, reporting the desired outcomes for CMS and educating diverse members of the hospital staff so they understand their role(s) in the prevention of these organisms
