OVERVIEW

Anterior Oblique Subsystem (AOS) is organized by Brookbush Institute.

Course Description:
This course describes the anterior oblique subsystem (AOS). The anterior oblique subsystem may also be referred to as the anterior oblique sling, oblique sling, anterior oblique myofascial synergy, and is similar to the concepts of muscle synergies, myofascial lines, myofascial trains, anatomy trains, myofascial meridians, superficial front line, functional line, spiral line, and the serape effect. This course covers a detailed analysis of the anterior oblique subsystem (sling) including anatomy, research, integration techniques and a sample routine.

The Anterior Oblique Subsystem (AOS) is comprised of:
• Rectus abdominis and pyramidalis
• Abdominal Fascia (Anterior layer)
• External Obliques
• Anterior Adductors
• Potentially
• Pectoralis Major
• Serratus Anterior

Behavioral Objectives
• Students will be prepared to pass a final exam by choosing from a list of potential answers to behavior-objective matched multiple-choice questions.
• Explain the findings of at least 4 research studies that have lead to the description of an AOS and how it may influence intervention
• List the structures that comprise the Anterior Oblique Subsystem (AOS)
• Describe the concentric, isometric and eccentric functions of the AOS
• Design a corrective routine including a core and integrated exercise with the intent of targeting the AOS
• Identify AOS over-activity using the Overhead Squat Assessment
• Deduce/synthesize a hypothesis regarding the effect this technique will have on outcome measures and the appropriate test for re-assessment.
• Design an intervention plan including these techniques with the intent of affecting an objectively measured functional outcome.
• Describe the functional benefits (including impact on performance, occupation or daily tasks) that may be expected from implementing the intervention plan.
