Course Overview
The COVID-19 pandemic has made clear that existing and pervasive health care disparities in the U.S. continue to disproportionately impact marginalized individuals and communities. In December 2020, data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicated that rates of COVID-19 infection, hospitalization, and death were higher for racial and ethnic minority groups and may be attributed to lack of equitable access to quality jobs, housing, education, health care and other social determinants of health. You are invited to join our distinguished moderator, and expert faculty, for a timely conversation recorded (April 27, 2021) on why health care disparities matter and the changes that are needed to create a post-pandemic health system and culture that supports and delivers equitable and inclusive access and care.
Course Objectives:
• Evaluate the systemic causes of health inequities exacerbated by COVID-19..
• Discuss mental health, behavioral health, and substance use disorder and the impact of COVID-19.
• Examine the structural and policy changes needed to propel health and equity forward in a post-pandemic world.
