Description:
Unlike a conventional operating room, MRI and CT environments frequently require the anesthesiologist to assume broader responsibility for immediate patient care decisions. Medical emergencies in this environment may be difficult to manage so the anesthesiologist should have a plan in place to deal with instrumentation of the airway and common airway problems.
Learning Objectives:
After successfully completing this activity, the learner will be able to:
- Identify opportunities to improve the safety risks associated with MRIs and CTs at your institution.
- Evaluate a patient's medical history to determine possible risks and best method of anesthesia care during an MRI or CT procedure.
- Describe the recommendations for exiting a patient during an equipment or medical emergency.
