Anemias to Iron Overload : New Biology and Therapeutic Targets in Iron Disorders is organized by David Geffen School of Medicine at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and will be held during Mar 07, 2017 - Mar 06, 2018. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

Anemia of chronic disease is a broad category of disease that encompasses a wide variety of conditions. Much of what is considered anemia of chronic disease depends on hepcidin metabolism and the role of iron in multiple biologic pathways. This seminar discusses the role of hepcidin in iron metabolism and new therapeutic targets for treatment of anemia of chronic disease.

Conference Objectives are :
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
• Identify common conditions that can result from iron restriction or iron overload.
• Compare and contrast how hepcidin regulation leads to disorders of iron excess and iron deficiency.
• Describe how hepcidin can be used as a target for new therapies in the treatment of disorders of iron metabolism.
