Description:
The practice of cytopathology involves gleaning as much information as possible from small samples. As experts in “minimally invasive” pathology, it is essential to know how to use select ancillary testing in conjunction with cytomorphology to provide as much information as possible to facilitate patient care. We will present a series of cases that demonstrate how judicious use of ancillary testing, including immunocytochemistry and various forms of molecular testing, can maximize the diagnostic yield of cytology specimens and decrease rates of “indeterminate” diagnoses.
Learning Objectives:
- Evaluate and assess aspirate samples from pancreatic solid lesions
- Evaluate and assess aspirate samples from pancreatic cystic lesions
- Cytology with understanding of current practices prevalent in signing out pancreatic aspirates
- Triage pancreatic mucinous cysts appropriately for additional testing if needed.
