• Apply evidence-based recommendations for the prevention of pneumococcal pneumonia.
• Plan the approach to healthcare-associated pneumonia.
TOPIC 2: Pleural Diseases: Effusions and Pneumothorax.
Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to: GL, COMP
• Determine the etiology of various pleural effusions by means of cases.
• Formulate the investigation and management of pleural effusions.
• Detect the presentation of pneumothorax.
• Develop the clinical approach to the management of pneumothorax using the ACCP Delphi Guidelines.
TOPIC 3: Non-Invasive Ventilation and Oxygenation in Respiratory Failure.
Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to: GL, COMP
• Review the indications for NIV in acute respiratory failure.
• Understand the benefits and risks of NIV.
• Discuss the strategies for initiation of NIV and monitoring response.
